About this course

Outline Outline

Condition Monitoring is a maintenance approach whereby the machine's health and safety are evaluated, and possibly the remaining useful life of the machine is forecasted, using machine sensor data and state-of-the-art monitoring software. The goal of the approach is to maximise the useful life of a machine, or its parts, and replace worn or broken parts at a convenient time so as to minimise the machine's downtime. This extension specialisation will focus on performing condition monitoring using vibrations; hence, it is assumed that students have a fundamental understanding of the principles of vibrations in machines or structures. Hardware and software implementation will be addressed.

What you'll learn
  • Demonstrate a conceptual understanding of fundamental science, mathematics, data analytics, information science, sustainability principles and/or computing, GC1
  • Solve condition monitoring problems of industrial and societal significance via innovative and creative design or research, working individually or in teams, GC2
  • Select and use current and emerging technologies to develop and communicate effective and innovative engineering solutions to complex problems, GC3
